Vintage Broyhill Lacquered Dresser

Every apartment and home needs more storage room, but it's Murphy's Law that we never have enough space! Here's a great Vintage Boyhill Lacquered Dresser we found with antiques industry spokesman George Evans, the entrepreneur behind Bond & Bowery, a great online resource for antiques and fine art.

Design2Share: What do you like about this dresser, George?

George: The sculptural feel to a case piece of furniture is difficult to achieve, especially when it comes to well-priced value pieces like this one. The two-tone color of this dresser is also uncommon,. The white lacquered body and finely-grained walnut door fronts make this an especially attractive piece.

D2S: What would you say is desirable and collectible about the dresser?

George: Form and function rule here. Being 66” long and only 19” deep, this piece offers plenty of storage and adds so much to an interior without taking up the whole room. Broyhill’s design of this piece is America’s answer to Danish modern design; this form resembles the work of Jens Risom.

D2S: Where would you think our readers could decorate with this dresser in the home?

George: I see this piece in many places. The bedroom, of course, as a traditional dresser for storing clothes. It would look great with a pair of Murano lamps on top, and there would still be room for one to spread out other items. This would also be great in the dining room as a server. In a large entrance way or front hall, use it to hold gloves and hats, candles, pet leashes, keys, and other personal items that you want safely stored out of the way. This would be perfect in the living room with a flat screen TV above it  - and the storage space welcomes your collection of DVD and CDs!

This dresser comes from Bond and Bowery dealer Danish Modern LA of Silver Lake, CA. We hope you look into this piece, if only because of its manufacturer. Based in North Carolina, Broyhill Furniture was a pioneer of the use of assembly line techniques, like Henry Ford's automobile plant. Broyhill is a company that has always grown, changed, and remained creative for over a 100 years, offering quality, style, and superb value.
